Behind the RPer
Nickname: TriskaidekaXIII… or just Deka will do. Or by my character’s name. All of that is fine.
Age: 20
Gender: Female
How can we reach you: Triskaidekaxiii@gmail.com
RP Experience: 7 or so years of RPG experience and about 10 of writing.
Your Character
((Now, please forgive me if my dear Lacuna gets out of hand. He tends to be a bit outspoken and likes to answer things on his own. I will translate as needed, and if Lacuna has nattered too much for your liking, I will redo the application while he is under sedatives.))
Name: My name is Lacuna Latronis. Lacuna is Latin for ‘Gap’ or ‘Ditch’.
Age: 21 to 32— I can’t really remember and I don’t really care.
Gender: Most regard me to be Male... even though I can’t really say I have anatomical proof of that... ((What Lacuna means to say here is that he... is a he))
Play By:((Uhh... Never mind that one, Lacuna. This picture I found I particularly liked because it shows the whole figure plus various facial expressions, which will give my fellow role players an easier time imagining Lacuna. However... I do not know who this fellow might actually be.))
Loyal to: I’m not very interested by either side. Their little war bores me.
Occupation:I am Head ((and only)) Librarian of the Destrax Library and ‘Book-hunter’
Likes: I particularly like fine tea and foods, witty comebacks, philosophy, relaxation and hot springs. I absolutely love books. In general, things that are of an intelligent, sophisticated nature.
Dislikes: Things that I dislike include melodrama, arrogance, ignorance, useless violence, etc—common things in idiots and zealots. ((What Lacuna fails to recognize is that he can be very melodramatic and arrogant. Perhaps he specifically hates this in others because he dislikes it in himself?))
Strengths: Well, as for strengths, I do have a pair of wings that I can fly on for a few hours, although it is very exhausting. I have found that I do not require food as much as humans do, perhaps every other week or so. In fighting, I have little strength or skill, so I primarily use dodging and strategy, usually to escape—and I am fairly fast, so usually I can escape most people. My best strength of all is my mind, wide array of knowledge and social skills. I also seem to have a strange talent for climbing.
Weaknesses: As for my detriments, I have a few of those as well. Even though I can survive off of minimal food, I still must have a good supply of drink. I become dehydrated more rapidly than humans do, and would probably not last a day deprived of water. My anatomy, both internal and external, is very strange, and most healing arts that have been performed on me fail, or at most, do only a minimal amount of healing. Additionally, certain parts of me, such as my wings, my hands, and my legs, seem to take a very long time to heal. Thirdly, I don’t really have any practical skills—like cooking, fighting, hunting, tracking, spying, arts or anything else that I could make a trade at.
Personality: Well, I would say I’m a ‘cool’ sort of fellow, someone who is much more at home playing cards or chess than trying to fight someone. Personally, I abhor violence, and I make it a point to try to negotiate or match wits with someone rather than do something as ghastly as hurting someone. Best of all is if I can hold a decent conversation with them, convince them that we mean no harm to each other, and go our separate ways pleased and content. Obviously, this works better with some than others.
I try not to be judgmental of people. I don’t particularly care what people say or do as long as it doesn’t affect me too much. People in general, are nice distractions, but they often tell lies and are uncouth. I like to socialize with people for a while, but after a couple hours, they bore me. ((Lacuna’s actually a very nice person to be around, if you aren’t annoyed by his inability to be angered or pressured. When he says things bore him, he usually means that the thing/ person is aggravating)
One of my most forth-coming traits is my skill to not be phased by threats and remain calm and agreeable, even as someone is severely hurting me. I believe it to be part masochism and part apathy—I’m not even sure I can die... although I won’t be testing that any time soon. I have considered that this acceptance of pain and rejection of fear may mean I’m mad, but I’ve also noted that most people of this land are mad. So I’m just a simple local, I suppose.
My deepest love is for books. My goal is to fill the Destrax Library with as many books as possible, of all sorts. To fulfill my ambition, I travel abroad searching for books. I buy, barter, adventure and generally scour the land for lexicons, almanacs, grymorahs, and novels. Ones that have fallen into this land from faraway lands are most intriguing. It is one of my ardent desires to see a camelopard in person. They look like such an elegant creature.
History: As far as I know, I was never born. I try to remember my first memories, but all I can come up with is shelving books at the Destrax Library. I have looked in the library and the surrounding areas for anything that might tell me what happened before that, but no one in Wicked Haven claimed to recognize me and I could find no documents in the library that gave me any proof of who I was. I simply came up with the name of Lacuna Latronis on a whim, after an author. Since I could not find any proof that I had been born, I simply decided I came into existence for the sake of the library.
The Destrax Library has been my home forever. It’s a rather large library, housing approximately 250,000 books. It is a good distance north of Wicked Haven, so no one comes to visit—not that I mind, I have my books to keep me company. I have read every book in the library at least twice. However, I found after reading the original books, I became quite upset that there were no new books. So, that is when I took up book hunting.
Book hunting is particularly rewarding because there are many types of books to find—the books of the original Wonderland, which are quite rare, the books of this Dark Mirror World, which are even rarer, and other world’s books, which fall into this place much like their people do. The other world’s books I find most delightful and interesting. Of course, traveling the lands is very delightful too, even with a war going on and people and creatures trying to kill you for little to no reason.
I also have been met by people (mostly doctors and healers saving me from death), who say my anatomy is extremely bizarre. It would be quite beneficial to me if I could find a book to figure out what I am exactly. But I have no books that catalogue anything like myself—and I have an exceptional memory when it comes to books.
Custom Title: Simply a Man Who Reads
Sample RP:
The smell of dust lingered within its pages, the paper smooth and cool to the touch, and as Lacuna lifted it up, he saw the title—“Vorpal Sword Care and Practical Use”. Lacuna felt giddy—this was a rare copy of a book from the original Wonderland. His thin fingers lovingly turned the pages, his fangs showing through a grin he couldn’t help but have. The diagrams of the sword were in rich, deep reds and sooty blacks, and the entire book was handwritten in curvy calligraphy. Lacuna sighed and buried his nose in the musty smell of the text. If he was really lucky, he could find an old Vorpal sword and make a display at Destrax! Not that anyone would come to see it, but it still made Lacuna happy to think about it.
“You gonna pay fo’ that before you marry it?” A gravelly voice broke through the librarian’s euphoria. It was the minute, wrinkled woman who owned the shop. Her milky eyes stared up at him in disgust. A happy person was an unwanted sight in this little Wicked Haven shop.
“Eheheh...” Lacuna removed the beautiful text from his nose, redness creeping into his cheeks, “Well, let’s see. I have something here—an Other World book about ships—I found I had an extra copy. That’s a fair exchange, yes?”
“Lawd, I gotta worry about al’ sorts here,” The shopkeeper spat on the floor, “I need money, not a book that no one’ll care about.”
Lacuna could feel his jaw slack as he stared at the decrepit old lady. It figured she would want the only thing he didn’t have on hand at the moment, “Oh. How unfortunate,” And with that Lacuna turned on his heels and burst out running through the door, with his new found treasure in hand.
