Personality: Fanatically loyal to the Red King, Xanthus loathes anyone and everyone associated with the White Queen and her upstart Prince. Carrying out the King’s orders without a shred of regret, Xanthus firmly believes that he can help bring peace to the mirror world by eliminating the tyrannical Queen. He will not stand for anyone who speaks out of turn about the King - or, indeed, any of his thirty chess pieces, who are the closest things to family Xanthus has ever had. He’s fiercely protective of them and will throw himself in harm’s way to help them without a second thought.

The Black Knight is very short-tempered and hates being mocked, lashing out at anybody who bad-mouths him. He is incredibly violent when angered, often making a mess of his surroundings but never striking allies out of rage. When calm, he is a pleasant conversationalist, but puts his fellow chess pieces and his duty to the King before everything else.

History: Xanthus doesn’t care for his past, nor does he ever talk about it; such is the pain that his memories bring with them. As far as he’s concerned, his life began when he joined the ranks of the Red King. His natural agility, vast range of abilities and knack for battle, coupled with his mastery of his unique weapon - dozens of amorphous bladed chains which he can control telekinetically - ensured that he rose through the ranks quickly until he attained the rank of Black Knight. He has held this position for over a year now, and the recent escalation of the war has drawn him fully into his duties to the King.
